Glen Phillips

Singer/Songwriter, lead man for the multi-platinum band Toad the Wet Sprocket and solo artist, Glen Phillips had been seeking modes of non-performative music for years when he discovered the Community Singing movement. Song circles focus on short, teachable heart-centered songs ranging from unison melodies to layered multi-part pieces. The experience is a little like church without religion — no dogma, just the feeling of connection with ourselves, spirit and each other. Community singing welcomes all voices and all levels of musical skill. It is an opportunity return to the birthright of shared, embodied, song that has been the central fabric of community since the dawn of humanity.

Glen has been singing professionally around the globe for over 30 years and has grown increasingly inspired to share with others the invigorating and uplifting power of Community Singing. After major life changes in 2016 Glen was introduced to ceremonial and ritual work including grief ritual, setting him on a path of personal study, ceremonial participation and co-facilitation.

“Being in a song circle with Glen is a spiritual experience. It opens me up, connects me to my voice and why I’m here, and brings me such joy. And the love, trust, and deep relationships that form among the group are so tangible and beautiful. Our circle has become a loving, connected community that I and our whole family feel so privileged to be part of! Thank you Glen for bringing all of your great gifts in this beautiful offering to me, my family and this remarkable community.” — Carl Palmer, Santa Barbara, CA
